Web Design

I have extensive knowledge and experience in creating clean and professional visual designs that reinforce brands and create striking user experiences. Moreover I am adept at keeping these designs Web friendly — because what looks good in one's favorite design program does not always translate easily and efficiently into Web markup. By learning the intricacies of designing for the Web, I am able to maximize the medium's advantages while avoiding its limitations.

By continually studying my profession, I have also gained valuable insight on user-centered design principles. Approaching every aspect of a project from the standpoint of the end user has helped me design sites that are easy to use and understand, thereby helping to maximize the chances for a project's success.

Web Development

I enjoy developing Websites as much as I do designing them. Designing and developing together offer a refreshing change of pace and an opportunity to use both sides of the brain. But there is also a certain satisfaction from writing clean, minimal code that is an extension of design in and of itself. Throughout my career I have strived to learn the art of writing clean, valid XHTML and CSS, and I have also learned the importance of properly formatted markup as well as code / content / behavior separation.

As accessibility guidelines and Section 508 compliance is becoming increasingly important, I have developed procedures intended to tackle these concerns and create compliant Websites. And since I have dealt firsthand with virtually every browser bug and limitation out there, I have extensive real-world experience at cross-browser and platform compatibility.

Flash Development

I have also been involved in the conception and development of several Flash-based websites, multimedia presentations and CD-ROMs. I have extensive knowledge in writing object-oriented ActionScript code including custom classes to enhance interactivity and user experience. I am also adept at incorporating external assets such as graphics, content, and XML data for dynamic, easily maintainable Flash Websites. I have also worked with third-party tools to extended the capabilities of Flash, particularly as a standalone application.

Process Development and Proper Documentation

During my career, I have developed documented standards for creating Web content, design, interactivity, and writing proper HTML and CSS. I have also conducted extensive research on developing a consistent, effective project process. During these endeavors I have gained a huge appreciation for the importance of having good processes in place to maximize the success and quality of all projects. I have also researched 508 compliance and put into place standards to ensure accessibility for all users.

Marketing Strategies and Campaign Development

I have studied marketing, branding and campaign development at my places of study. I have carried this knowledge into the real world by producing advertisements, corporate identity packages, and long-term marketing strategies. Moreover, such knowledge has allowed me to understand how to design projects that stay consistent with a brand and fit into the "big picture".
